President Goodluck Ebele Jonathan
‘Set our innocent school girls free’, ‘Bring back our girls’. ‘We want serious action from government’.

These were part of the inscriptions on placards carried by protestors today in Kano to drive home their displeasure over the continued abduction of over 230 school girls from the Government Girls Secondary school, Chibok, Borno State.

The peaceful demonstration was facilitated by a coalition of Civil Society Organisations (CSOs) under the canopy of Kano Civil Society Forum.

Protestors marching to the government house
They marched from the Lodge Road roundabout, which is a precinct to Government House, Kano to deliver a letter to Kano state Governor, Engr. Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso for onward transmission to President Goodluck Jonathan.

Leader of the group, Hajiya Amina Hanga while speaking to the reporters, expressed sadness over the continued abduction of the innocent girls.

She hinted: “We are not happy that up to this moment, these girls are yet to be recovered or regain their freedom. As mothers and sisters, we feel very disturbed about the situation and hope government will do something urgently on the issue.’’

Hajiya Hanga also enjoined the Federal Government to adopt drastic measures, with a view to ensuring that the innocent girls are rescued from the hands of the insurgents. We are therefore appealing to the Federal Government and security agents to rescue our girls and other women in captivity.

‘’We are disturbed that 16 days after the girls were abducted; there has been no positive news from the government concerning their safety or the possibility of being rescued.

Gov. Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso of Kano State
‘’Worst still is the news making the round that most of the 234 schoolgirls have been ferried abroad and allegedly married off to insurgents’’, she cried out, stressing that the demonstration would continue until the government heed their cries and rescue the innocent girls.

In his response, Gov. Kwankwaso assured them he would promptly deliver the letter to Mr. President for his necessary action so the unfortunate girls can reunite with their already traumatized family.
