Arsenal have won the FA Cup by beating Hull City
3-2 after extra-time at Wembley, ending their nine-year wait for silverware, Sky
News reports.
Aaron Ramsey's neat finish from an Olivier
Giroud backheel broke the hearts of Hull's fans and sparked wild
celebrations in the red half of the stadium.
It is the club's first trophy since 2005, when
they won the same competition against Manchester United following a penalty
shootout.
But after ten minutes it looked like that drought
was going to continue.
The Gunners found themselves 2-0 down as the
underdogs made a blistering start to the match.
James Chester and Curtis Davies scored from two
set pieces to leave Hull dreaming of a first FA Cup.
But Arsene Wenger's men began to dominate
possession and Santi Cazorla restored hope with a well struck free kick
that gave Allan McGregor no chance in the Hull goal.
Laurent Koscielny equalised to send the game to
extra-time and the pressure eventually told when Ramsey scored the winner.
Manager Arsene Wenger told ITV: "We wanted
to make history tonight and win the game, and we made history in both ways -
how not to start a cup final and how to come back.
"I'm very happy for the players because I
think it was a turning point in the lifetime of this team, and to know they can
win in that way was very important today."
Ramsey said his decisive contribution was a dream
come true.
"We showed great strength and character
today to come back to win it," he said.
"To score the winner in extra-time is
something I've dreamed of for many, many years."
