The governors of Kano, Jigawa and
Akwa Ibom states, Engr. Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, Alhaji Sule Lamido and Mr.
Godswill Akpabio respectively are among a few global notable personalities who
are expected to be conferred with this year’s Trumpet Leadership Award in the
United Kingdom next month.
Two members of the House of
Representatives, Abdulrahaman Kawu Sumaila, Deputy Minority Leader representing
Takai/Sumaila constituency of Kano state and Sabo Mohammed Nakudu, chairman,
House Committee on Customs and Excise representing Buji/Birnin Kudu
constituency of Jigawa state would also be honoured.
According to the Founder/CEO of the
UK based newspaper, The Trumpet, Mr. ‘Femi Okutubo; organizers of the
high octane event scheduled for Hilton London Paddington, in London on
Friday, May 30, this year, the Mayor of London is expected to grace the
occasion among the high profile guests.

He disclosed that the award evening
will also incorporate a slot during which the vast trade, investment and
tourism potentials of Kano, Jigawa and Akwa Ibom states would be showcased to
attendees at the event.
In a conferment letter sent to the
governors, Okutubo said, “Trumpet Media Group was established in the UK in 1995
largely because the achievements of Africans, Nigerians especially, were not
being adequately promoted by the main stream British media.
“To counter this trend, and to
promote the vast positive talents among Africans in the continent and the
diaspora, the Trumpet Media Group came to be. 20 years on, we are proud to note
that Africans are being treated with a lot more respect and importance.”

He also revealed that the
anti-apartheid leader and former South Africa President, late Dr. Nelson
Mandela, Professor George Kirya, Henry Annan, Ovation publisher Dele Momodu,
Senator Tokunbo Afikuyomi, singer/actress, Patti Boulaye and late medical guru,
Professor Thomas Adeoye Lambo, Paralympic gold medalists Ade Adepitan, Anthonia
Okonma of Bad Girls as well as Cyril Nri of The Bill are some of
the past recipients of Trumpet Group's awards which also include the Gathering
of Africa's Best (GAB) Awards.

British Parliament), William Hague (then leader of the Conservative Party),
Erelu Lola Ayonrinde - a Nigerian two-time Mayor of the London Borough of
Wandsworth, John Bowis (MEP), His Royal Highness, Oba Lamidi Adeyemi - the
Alaafin of Oyo, former Nigeria Attorney General and Minister of Justice, Prince
Bola Ajibola, soccer legend - John Fashanu, the Heads of Mission of Uganda,
Nigeria, Sierra Leone, Ghana, Namibia and Egypt as among the guests that have
graced the event in the past.
Trumpet's Head of Special Events, Natalie Saunders said
the Trumpet Leadership Award (TLA) has come a long way having attracted the
crème-d-la-crème in and outside UK annually, adding that it provides an
opportunity to showcase investment opportunities in Africa; with a platform to
reach a potential audience of over ten million people through media coverage.
Saunders added that Trumpet Leadership Awards guarantees an
evening of recognition, entertainment and enlightenment as well as being a
networking event of top Africans and friends of Africa from the continent and
the diaspora.
Also speaking, Nigerian Coordinator to the project, Salihu
Othman Isah, CEO, Jarat Marketing Services assured that the state governors
would have golden opportunity to let the global audience know the dividends of
democracy they have provided the people of their various states.
Isah, who is the National Vice President, Actors Guild of
Nigeria (AGN) whose stage name is Hotman also pledged a special package
where the governors and their delegations from Nigeria would meet with some
London Mayors and other top government functionaries in the United Kingdom as
well as business owners and potential investors to cross fertilize ideas.
“They would also have the opportunity to network with
financial institutions with the capability to provide financing for different
sectors of the state’s economy, promote their rich cultural heritage through
fashion parade and or cultural display.
“Of course, they would also be received by their indigenes
living in the UK through their unions and associations and get to rub minds on
how to ensure greater participation in the affairs of their respective states”,
Hotman concluded.
