BE SECURITY CONSCIOUS, POLICE HIGH COMMAND COUNSELS KANO RESIDENTS SALISU SAYYADI, KANO

The police high command has through the Deputy Inspector General of Police (DIG), Logistics and Supply, Mr. Emmanuel Kachi Udeoji cautioned residents of Kano to be security conscious in view of the prevailing circumstances in the country.

To this end, he has alerted the people of the state to be conscious of their environment and report any suspicious character whose activities or movements threaten security in their areas to the nearest police station.

The DIG who gave the advice at the town hall meeting with the community, religious and market leaders in the state held at the Police Mess, Bompai Kano today, revealing he was in the state to interact with the officers as well as rank and file in the state to ascertain how they were coping in view of the present security challenges across the nation.

The top cop however pleaded with the residents in the state to share with the police; information of any problems in their community in order to achieve maximum security.   

Udeoji also pointed out that all hands must be on deck to ensure security of lives in the nation, insisting every citizen has a duty towards the state which ultimately is to volunteer information.

While answering a question thrown to him by the Chairman, Kano State Chapter of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC), Comrade Yunusa Dangunguwa on the inaccessibility of the police stations by the communities, the DIG explained that circumstances of insurgents prompted the police to have the measure and that it will only last for sometime.

In the same vein, chairman Fulbe Development Association, FULDAN, Mallam Ahmad Usman Bello alleged that the so called vigilante personnel who are untrained and unskillful in collaboration with traditional rulers are usually the ones who rustle cows, selling them and sharing the proceed.

Bello also stressed that they don’t enjoy protection by the security agencies, despite being a major contributor to the nation’s economy.

In his reply, the DIG asked them to report to the police any suspicious character in their settlement or around their cattle for the police to give them maximum security.   

Stakeholders at the town hall meeting includes representatives of the Kano state government, Jamaatu Izalatul Bidia Waikamatus Sunnah, JIBWIS, Civil Society Organizations (CSOs), Community based Organisation (CBOs), Police Community Relations Committee, and traders.
