KWANKWASO DEFENDS KANO’S ANNUAL N394M INVESTMENT TO SPONSOR ITS STUDENTS TO BELL, CRESCENT VARSITIES

Due to its commitment to improving the educational standard of its people, the Kano State Government spends not less than N394m annually to sponsor its 400 students, currently pursuing different courses at Bells University of Technology and Crescent University, both in Ogun state, Southwest Nigeria.

Governor Rabi’u Musa Kwankwaso who revealed this during a visit to the universities to assess the performance of the students, said his administration has so far ploughed N591m for the sponsorship.

He also hinted that the government is spending N1.22 million yearly on each of the students, stressing that the amount included tuition fees, cost of study materials and living expenses among others.

Kwankwaso further affirmed that the money being spent on the students is an investment in their future and indeed the future of the state, as the youths are the leaders of tomorrow.

The governor expressed that the state is more than ever before determined to enable youths in the state to be morally and intellectually fit to face future challenges.

“The government is sponsoring students from Kano to other parts of the country and overseas, so as to expose them to other environments and foster unity and understanding”, he said.

According to him, his government is devoting huge resources to the development of education as part of effort to bridge the gap between the Northern and Southern parts of the country.

Kwankwaso equally maintained that it is only when youths in the state and Northern Nigeria are educated that they would stop to be perceived as parasites.

The governor, who exchanged views with the Kano students at Bells University, as well as authorities of the university, charged them to remain good ambassadors of Kano state by being worthy in character and learning. 

He enjoined parents and well meaning individuals to complement government’s efforts in promoting educational development in the state by devoting time and resources to the educational and general welfare of their wards.
