The Kano State Government has donated a building and the sum of one million naira to the family of former national vice chairman of the Sports Writers Association of Nigeria (SWAN), Alhaji Sani Muhammad Usman who died a few months ago after an illness.

Governor Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso presented the Certificate of Occupancy (C of O) of a house to the family of Usman, who was also a former Director of Press to the governor during his first tenure.

He recounted with nostalgia how the deceased contributed immensely to the success of his administration from 1999-2003, explaining that up to the time of his death, late Sani was his associate.

Similarly, Gov. Kwankwaso has presented the sum of N10 million as donation to four victims of Kano Tan Company, who died while flushing out sludge from a tannery chemical container a few months ago.

He presented the cheques of N2.5 million to each of the victims’ families. The deceased are Dahiru Abdullahi, Sale Abdullahi, Ado Muhammad and Ibrahim Isa.

The governor however affirmed that the donation is not compensation but a step taken to alleviate the pains of their bereaved families.

Kwankwaso warned that the government would no longer tolerate situations whereby workers are exposed to avoidable dangers.

He pointed out that management of Kano Tan Ltd. has been directed to sponsor the education of one child from each family as well as to employ two persons from each of the affected families, so as to help them overcome the grief of losing a bread winner.
